Wasziederij de Vesting, a family business at heart

1955 – 1978

Wasziederij De Vesting has always been a traditional family business founded by the late H. Smits Sr., which has been active in the national and international market for many years. De Vesting was founded in 1955 and has its roots in Naarden-Vesting, in the region ‘t Gooi. Shortly after, work was carried out from a small space on the IJsseldijk in IJsselstein. Back then, De Vesting concentrated primarily on the rapidly growing antiques trade. De Vesting specialised particularly in the production and sale of restoration and maintenance items, such as antique waxes and stains (often produced on a natural basis). Our products were mostly used by traditional furniture makers and antique dealers.

1978 – 1998

Due to the increasing demand for Vesting products the space in IJsselstein soon became too small and in mid-April 1978 a new production facility was purchased in Someren-Eind, in the province of Brabant. From there, the range was expanded and De Vesting specialised increasingly in the production of high quality stains and waxes. There was also growing demand for De Vesting products from the furniture trade and furniture manufacturers.

Working with the furniture industry meant that in 20 years De Vesting soon grew to a production that far exceeded expectations. In particular, the specific work for the furniture industry required a different work method than that which was possible in the building on the Sluisstraat, in Someren-Eind. In 1997 the decision was made to build a new production facility that fulfilled all the requirements with respect to production capacity, environmental requirements, safety and particularly, space.

1998-2013

In December 1998, the big move occurred and the grand opening of the new premises became a reality. The premises were equipped with offices, a professional spray booth, a laboratory, larger production facilities with all professional equipment, all this, in order not to hinder further growth.

From 2003 De Vesting has also been focusing on the floor and parquet industry. After extensive research and testing, Wax Oil 3000 was developed. This has been, and still is, one of the top products in our range. Naturally, soon several items for this industry followed, such as maintenance and repair products. We currently have products for both the furniture and the flooring industry, for example, the Wax Oil 1000, 2000 and 3000 Series. These can be used on both furniture and floors. Of course we also have traditional oils for furniture or other wooden surfaces.

2013-now

Since 2013, a major change has occurred in our marketing. Among other things, the labels, corporate brochures, product sheets and website have been updated. Internally there have also been changes in the area of expansion of the production and stock area.

This was necessary due to good growth with existing customers, but also due to expansion abroad and our own production in America. In this way, we can continue to supply on demand in a short delivery-time, and do so more efficiently and with more production capacity.
